Mass extinction via food chain
If morray eels became extinct, scorpionfish, hawkfish, barnicles, zooplankton and phytoplankton would all be effected because of their links in the food chain. The less seastars, the more algae. The more algae, the more seastars. everything in the ocean is linked. The food chain can also cause disaster in another way. Research has found that the oil spill off the coast of the gulf of mexico had made its way into the bodies of tiny phytoplankton. these phytoplankton were then eaten by plankton and a variety of other creatures these creatures then became sick, reducing their immune system to fight disease. In their weakened state they were easy targets for bigger fish. These fish ate them, and then caught the disease. soon the whole foodchain has been affected, causing massive population growth of some species and near extinction for others.
